Volunteering at the Historical Society is a great way to meet other interesting people and further the important work of collecting, preserving and disseminating the history of Carlton County.

Small Projects
We are in need of a volunteer to work at a West End Flourish Grant project called "Forging Friendships". CCHS is partnering with blacksmith Brian Lokken, who will be teaching basic smithing to onlookers at Spafford Park. We will have a display of iron artifacts and information about CCHS.
What: represent CCHS, answer questions, and help Brian as needed
When: Sunday, July 30th, 4-7 p.m.
Where: Spafford Park
Time requirement; 4 hours
Physical requirements: standing (bring your own lawn chair)
Perks: volunteers are assured an opportunity to make an iron hook or bookmark

We have a child's toy with a broken "leg". It is an easel with a blackboard - very nice- but one of the legs has snapped into two pieces. I would like to have someone glue the pieces together so that the easel may be displayed.

time commitment: two trips to CCHS - one to glue and clamp the pieces and one to remove the clamps and check that it works
equipment needed: woodworking glue, clamps

What: haul humidifier and old microfilm reader to the transfer station and/or haul paint to the hazardous waste facility.
When: time of your own choosing
Where: items are located at CCHS in Cloquet; transfer station is outside of Carlton
Equipment needed: a truck and a dolley
Time commitment: 2 hours
Notes: we will reimburse for transfer station charges.
What: haul boxes of new books to the Carlton County Fairgrounds
When: before August 18; arrange time with CCHS Director
Where: books are stored at City Hall in Cloquet and need to be moved to the Machinery Building at the county fairgrounds. We need to move 1000 books, to be given to visitors at no cost.
Equipment needed: a vehicle that can haul 1000+ pounds
Time Commitment: 3 hours
Current opportunities
TOUR GUIDE
If you are interested in learning about the history of Carlton County in depth and then sharing your knowledge with others, become a tour guide! After training, guides will lead tours at the Historical Society as well as provide outreach power point lectures to school classrooms and community groups.
RECEPTION DESK
Provide a friendly welcome to the Historical Society and assist visitors with their interests and questions. Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.

SPECIAL EVENTS / CARLTON COUNTY FAIR
Special Event volunteers provide excellent customer service and a warm welcoming environment to visitors attending Special Events at the Historical Society and the County Fair.
